Apparently Martin Peters played in every position for West Ham,including in goal.

McAvennie should've stayed in midfield, right?

Play players in their natural positions. It ain't fucking rocket science.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
Malcolm Macdonald switched from full back when he was 17 and playing for Tonbridge. Hurst was a kid as well, as you say.

Kouyate is 27 and is a Premier League and International regular.

Fair comparison??

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
Geoff Hurst: central defender (admittedly only as a youth) -> midfielder -> striker.

Malcolm MacDonald: left back -> striker.

Yes, it's totally obvious that no-one could ever make a success of changing position.

You can understand the concerns when we need to be beating the sides around us to ensure we stay up as our performances against the top four clubs has made a huge dent in our goal difference as well as some of those sides below and around are picking up points.

Higher the finish in the Prem the more cash we'll have for the marquee signing in the summer!

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
I see C&H have run a story that we are scouring the world for a quality RB as Byram is seen only as back-up. He's going to be off in the summer I'll bet.

Kouyate was unfortunate giving away the penalty and otherwise does OK at RB. Clearly it would be better to have a decent RB but I guess they aren't so easy to find.

We could have had Jenkinson but quite honestly, Byram is probably better than him now and if he's not the answer...

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
Bilic is suffering from setting the bar so high after last season, and with the saboteur making life difficult this season, it's hard to see where we stand. Where he's lost points with me is the chronic right back and striker situation. he's had 3 windows to fix those gaping holes and hasn't done it. If it's down to the board not backing him I'd expect him to walk in the summer.

I'll be surprised if we finish top 10. On paper, it looks like we should, but I don't see it if we continue without a striker. That was a shit Watford side yesterday and were there for the taking. Finishing top 10 would be a significant feat though by our standards.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
I'm a little bit confused.

It's right that we should give someone a run of games in a certain position to see if they can cut it, but wrong that we gave someone else a run in a certain position to see if they could cut it?

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
I agree, he should be getting a run of games

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
How many young players has Bilic given a decent run in the team since he's been here? He has a mental block about doing it, even though we're not going down and this would be the perfect opportunity to give someone like Byram a few matches.

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
I agree about Obiang and Antonio but loads of managers have blindspots regarding certain players, at least he finally came to his senses regarding those two. I was just not having that he'd settled for a comfortable league position

like I said earlier in the thread, Kouyates being played at RB to get him games as Noble can't be dropped. I don't think he's played too bad there but I'd rather Byram got a run of games

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
Miike, the refereeing was terrible, and it cost us, but are you saying that by leaving Obiang out and playing Antonio at RB, we were giving ourselves the best chance in those games?

Re: We have to talk about Slaven
one thing in his favour - i was just re-reading the match report and what he said at half time the team took to heart.

something like told them at half-time we could definitely raise our level and play with more confidence. The second half was one of our better performances this season.

you could see right from the off in the 2nd half we had our tails up.

I know 1st half shouldve been better, he made selection mistakes - but he's better than a lot of other options, he's the man in the chair right now, and I feel we've progressed.

he'll get better

(or get sacked)

Super Slav cannot legislate for poor and inconsistent refereeing.....it's our own fault for not being a big club.

Kouyate at right back has cost us a goal in the last two games and no cover for AC as we all knew would be a huge mistake
